PROVIDENCE, RI—The banner rippling in the wind just outside the front door says it all: Accepting Applications From Great People. In a bold move, the Chili’s restaurant in Providence lowered the requirement for applicants in search of potential employment. The previous banner – up as recently as the beginning of the month – read: Now Hiring Excellent People.
"Let me just say right now," said company spokesman, Bob Underoos, "that anyone who’s already been with the company for any length of time is still required to function at the level at which they were hired in.
"The last thing I want to see is a bunch of great employees walking around doing a great job."
While the move came as no surprise to industry analysts, in light of the huge applicant turnout most wonder what took Chili’s so long to join the trend. Since late last year, for example, Red Robin’s hiring campaign asked potential applicants the question: Are You Good Enough?

At my little place, it's a prerequisite to show up late, be stoned, and come with lots of drama. :)
Yea, I have to agree with upset waitress. Most of the people at my job are either drunk or stoned, and there's nothing but petty bullshit there. It's to the point that the dining room servers at my place are more childish than the 16 year old servers I worked with at Shoneyland

I found this page because I'm researching laziness in the service industry as my Pet Peeve Speech. I'm fed up with being one of the few that do what they're suppose to do. I may show up hung-over half the time, but I still do my job. I'm sick of incompetent, lazy people being hired on because they just need warm bodies to fill in the floor plan!
You get that anywhere these days, anon. Get over it or get another job. And, by the way, showing up hung over is a great way to be less than efficient yourself. You may be what you loathe, in other words.
dennis are you out there? if you cant speak just tap twice......help is on the way........I miss dennis.....
yeah we def always show up stoned at my work... its really not hard, im well aware that i have an incredily easy job of which i can make good money while being stoned. the drama is hilarious. sometimes i cannot believe the shit i witness at work.
Haha! You should write for The Onion. Seriously! You'd be perfect!
the place i work now, the money is acceptable, but not great....but we've all been there for at least a few years.... not much turnover because the bosses are prety easy going (when they are even there) ... lots of stoned, drunk & late... but sometimes thats me...so we don't judge each other... as for chilli's i guess they gotta do what they gotta do...if mitt romney can pull 200 million out of dominos pizza, then there must be a couple bucks in chillis...
happy thanksgiving, mw
well, I hear the US Army also changed their requirements. Makes you wonder, doesn't it?
peace,

Boy do I have a story...
While vacationing in Lake George back in ’04 I was arrested for leaving less than an 18 % tip. I along with three other adults came to the conclusion that both the food and service sucked, so we left just little over 10 %. The owner’s wife was so pissed she followed us outside the restaurant into other shops and call the cops who happen to be right outside her restaurant. I stood my ground andon principle refused to pay because of the way they were treating us. In fact, not only didn’t I pay the 18 % but I ask for the initial 10% I gave them back. I told them if you guys want to arrest me for this go right ahead. I know injustice when I see it..!! Well the police, nonchalantly took me down to the station finger printed me and took a mug shot of me. Needless to say, the story hit a local newspaper , then the news wire and then all over the nation the following day..!!
It was weird, It somehow struck a nerve in mainstream society and made it as far as Japan and South America! The charges were dropped after a few days by the DA and it actually forced a new interpretation of the law which made it clear that restaurants cannot mandate a gratuity. It has to be clearly stated as a “Service Charge”. Since then I've seen opinions go both ways. 50 % say it is wrong to leave a small tip, the other half say sure, if there is a system in place to help show your gratitude or lack thereof use it to the fullest of its ability just as I did!!
